Hidden wonders

I visited our flickr group today and found this beauty. The vase itself is stunning to me- but I noticed something else in the photo. This is not a problem, to me, rather it is intriguing. Photography “purists” might comment on this in a negative way, but I’ll put my spin on it. I can see, in the blown up photo, what looks like the view from an open window. It looks like a lovely tall brownstone, on a beautiful cloudy but blue day. Am I dreaming? Does our artist live in this neighborhood? Is this the window above her photo-shoot area, spilling clear daylight into the frame? Is this window with it’s pretty view in her art studio? I wonder….

The vase is so cute and pretty, and it looks to me like little pieces of sunflowers have spattered onto the orange glass and embedded themselves there, forever. They won’t wither, like flowers do in a vase. What does it look like to you?

I’m looking forward to next week’s entries. I just went to the ASTD Techknowlege conference, which is all about the industry of my “Day job”, which is ELearning. I am an instructional designer, apparently. That means I create content to be used in online courses. It also, alas, meant that last week I didn’t do any creating because the intellectual side of my brain was very very busy!

Yellow Tweety pendant- look at the 3d effect of art under, and over, the glass

This pendant, by icklbird, is so cool! I’ve seen, and I’m sure you’ve seen, many pendants and marble type magnets with all sorts of things under the glass. But this one has both- a little background behind the glass, and a focal point image stuck to the front of the glass! The image on the front casts a shadow into the glass, and the whole effect is totally 3d and totally cool.

I got a new stamp set (well, three, actually) this week. Finally, a stamp company is creating images that I find worthy! My standards for a stamp are quite high, since I don’t approve of buying something for myself that I am only going to use once. So and image has to be the right subject matter (birds, flowers, swirly) and the right size (to make a pendant or jewerly) before I’ll go near it. These are great! So I create one with an orange background, and one with pink. Quite a shocking pink.

I know SpiritMama from Etsy. I love this piece! All at once it manages to be cute, lovely, thought provoking, emotional, tactile, quiet, and serene.

My first Orange and Pink Art Challenge! an art journal, for me.

I finally, after years of wistfully reading Somerset Studio, before “altered art” was a 10 cent term, I have begun my art journal. The front and back covers are delightful glittered paper, in orange and pink of course! I uploaded a photo of the covers of the journal to the flickr group.

I have started a flickr group to support and encourage the creation of art in my favorite color combination- Orange and Pink! Each week, by Sunday night at midnite, photos can be uploaded into the group, located here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/opchallenge/.
